Now serving Washington, DC with Animal Care & Control Services, Adoptions and Low-Cost Vet Care
Starting Tuesday, November 4th, all public services, including lost & found pets, animal care and control, fostering, as well as wellness, spay & neuter, and community cat services at our low-cost Animal Health Center will be transitioning to the new DC Village campus. Located at 4 DC Village Lane in Southwest, the facility replaces the District’s decades-long running facility on New York Avenue in Northeast.
The new DC Village campus marks a major step forward in the District’s commitment to compassionate, progressive animal welfare. The nearly 30,000 square foot campus offers amenities for adoptable animals, family pets, and the community.
2024 was a monumental year for our organization saving lives and spreading hope. Thanks to your unwavering support and our collective dedication, we provided second chances to more than 20,000 companions and expanded our services into new regions of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, firmly establishing the Brandywine Valley SPCA as a leader in animal welfare and the largest animal welfare organization in the region.
The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) began an exciting new partnership with DC Health on Jan. 1 2025, marking a transformative step forward in animal care and control services for Washington, DC. The BVSPCA now oversees animal control, care, medical services, field operations, lost & found, and adoptions within the District.
The Brandywine Valley SPCA's partnership with the District highlights a continuation of expanded mobilization efforts and lifesaving growth. BVSPCA was recognized for reaching No-Kill status in Central PA at the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area just months after the organization's affiliation in early 2024. BVSPCA has also expanded these No-Kill initiatives into New Jersey with the affiliation with the Animal Adoption Center in Lindenwold.
BVSPCA's work in Delaware helped create the first No-Kill state in the country and led to Delaware's only in-shelter Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at BVSPCA's state-of-the-art Copeland Center for Animal Welfare in New Castle. The new partnership with DC Health increases Brandywine Valley SPCA's footprint as the largest multi-state animal welfare organization.
An important goal of the partnership with DC Health is to bring the BVSPCA's No-Kill standard of lifesaving to the District. Within just a couple months of operation, BVSPCA was able to achieve a lifesaving rate over 90% for the District, and has worked hard to continue to hold that standard.
Brandywine Valley SPCA will bring modern and progressive adoption policies to animal care. These include open adoption policies, foster-to-adopt, and dropping breed labeling of shelter dogs to increase adoptions.
Brandywine Valley SPCA will bring its nationally recognized community cat programs which aim to increase the health and wellness of community cats while proactively reducing the number of animals being born without homes in our community to DC.
Brandywine Valley SPCA will bring experts in the field to lead a behavioral and enrichment program that helps animals needing a little more support.
Brandywine Valley SPCA will bring its innovative offsite and Mega Adoption Events to DC to increase lifesaving and help more animals find loving homes.
Brandywine Valley SPCA will build a robust volunteer and foster program to engage the community in this lifesaving work.
Brandywine Valley SPCA will bring programs and services to assist pet families with resources to help keep pets in their homes and out of shelters.
